Online EMDR Therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression & Anxiety

Hey, I’m Sunny! Looks like you’re looking for something different in your life. You may not know this yet, but I see you as being more resilient than you can imagine. Maybe you need to work through a painful past, or there may be a lot going on in your current situation - but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Just living your life doesn't need to be so hard. I want to help you untangle the thoughts and emotions that are holding you back.

What is big “T” trauma

Life is hard, and sometimes, we’re dealt circumstances that might be outside of our control, or we experience a distressing event that we would rather not have happened. Trauma symptoms develop when the amount of stress generated from the event surpasses our ability to cope or to otherwise integrate the traumatic event into our life story. The event happened during a moment in time and yet it continues to haunt us in the form of memories, physical symptoms and emotional upset. It keeps us from living the life we want.

What is little “t” trauma

Many of us have likely experienced little “t” traumas that are significant and impactful, and yet, we might have downplayed them as “no big deal” because we had to keep on going. Little “t” traumas may be the times when you felt like you didn’t belong, when you moved your family across the country or the world, or when you lost a loved one or a pet. They can be when you failed an exam or were passed up for a promotion and felt “not good enough” since.

An event that is emotionally distressing to you might seem insignificant to another, and vice versa. As a trauma-informed therapist, I want to know how something has impacted you.

If it matters to you, it matters to me.

How I help - Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

I’ve been extensively trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapy approach backed by research that is shown to be effective for treating trauma. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (side-to-side movement) to help the brain process through difficult memories or experiences. By replacing negative cognitions with more positive ones, EMDR allows the brain to create more adaptive neural pathways. You’ll still remember what happened, but you won’t be as upset by these memories. I choose this type of trauma treatment because it allows clients to process through the difficult memory with as much or as little dialog as they prefer.

While EMDR was initially developed for treating PTSD, it is also effective in addressing other issues such as:

  • depression

  • anxiety (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, performance anxiety, panic disorders, phobias)

  • grief and loss

  • self-esteem and perfectionism

  • stress

My style

As a trauma therapist, I tend to be direct and transparent in my approach, and I don’t like to sugarcoat things. I also balance that out with meeting you where you’re at and noticing your potential for growth and change. I see you for all of you and I want to help you get closer to the life you want to live.

Early birds and early afternoon appointments

I do my best work in the early part of the day and offer appointments before you head in to work or in between meetings and classes.

Here are my hours:

Mondays - 7:30am to 2pm
Tuesdays - 7:30am to 2pm
Wednesdays - 7:30am to 2pm
Thursdays - 7:30am to 2pm
