Life transitions
Hi, I’m Rachel and I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate and a National Certified Counselor. I’ve been through many life transitions: navigating career changes, moves across the country, the world, and I’m familiar with that feeling of starting over. I relate with many of my clients who are trying to figure out the next phase in their lives and how to balance all the moving parts. If that’s you, let me know if I can be a good fit for you!
Where I’ve trekked
I’m biracial Cambodian and White, and while I am a part of both cultures, I do not fully belong to either. Steeped in academia, I was first a student, then a teacher, and now a counselor with a passion for helping school staff, students and young professionals. As the oldest of three, I had to mature fast, helping with my two younger brothers and working in the service industry, which I did from adolescence to young adulthood. That left little room to play. As an adult, I’ve learned and continue to learn to make space for myself to both work and play.
Born in Texas, my love of arts led me to graduate with my B.A. from the University of North Texas where I majored in English Literature and minored in Music. With a desire to teach high school students, I got my teaching certificate and taught English Language Arts and Business Communications for two years. It was there that many students came to me one-on-one to talk about their struggles, and I enjoyed that personal connection. After two years of volunteering and teaching with the Peace Corps in Albania, and learning about the importance of mental health, I got my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Montana. My clinical experience includes a student advocacy and counseling center and various community mental health settings. In my clinical practice, I seek regular consultation from my colleagues and my supervisor, Ada Pang.
Clinical interests
People are my passion, but I’m especially drawn to working with teachers, school staff, college and young professionals. Having been both a student and a teacher, I understand the pressures of academia. Because I made a career shift early on, and know how much of a difference support can make, I am dedicated to supporting other people going through their own life transitions.

Outside of work
I’m a counselor by day and a musician by night, kinda sorta. I love to sing, dabble on strings, and attend any kind of show, including concerts, operas, and musicals. Additionally, I enjoy playing with my cattle pup, Kenji, and trekking the mountains by foot or rope. My partner and I love to cook (and yes, we named our pup after chef J. Kenji López-Alt). We’re thrilled to make Seattle our home until the next adventure comes!
What about you?! Where are you heading? May I join you during this phase of life? I offer both in-person and online appointments.
